Thank you for reporting a dead bird. Your report provides crucial information for our mosquito control program.
Not all dead birds are candidates for testing. Your report will be screened and forwarded to the District for pickup if certain criteria are met (the dead bird program is operated by the California Department of Public Health). Regardless of whether or not a bird can be tested, all reports are valuable because we use them to map and identify potential West Nile virus risk areas.
To Report a Dead Bird
Please call the toll-free California West Nile virus dead bird call center at (877) WNV-BIRD (968-2473). Operators are available from mid-April through mid-October. At any time of year, you can also report dead birds online.
Not all birds can be picked up for testing, but all reports are mapped and used to identify potential West Nile virus hotspots.
